Portraits of History

Artist Statement

In some portraits, including some commissions, I aim to portray not only a person or people, but also an historical moment. No one exists in a vacuum, psychologically, spiritually or physically. As much as possible, I try to show that we are products of the times in which we live, the value systems, priorities and prejudices. Setting, clothing, posture, palette, tone and expression are means of showing context and deepening understanding of a portrait.
