Nature

Still Lifes

Artist Statement

I need to ground myself in oil painting, my first artistic medium, and in craft. There is nothing to me like the beauty and consistency of oil; it feels alive, it smells glorious, and its history reminds me that art contains magic. I will never be the oil painter of my dreams, but I can lose myself in the glory of artistic creation when I paint in oil. The still life as a subject brings me back to the wonder of nature and the miracle of existence. It reminds me to stop and look and be in awe at what surrounds us in the natural world.
