My mother's father, Samuel Pearl, was the saint of our family. A beloved doctor, he lived with us and cared for our health until his death in 1957. I adored him. An immigrant who arrived in Boston with no English, this portrait is from his 1911 graduation picture from Tufts University Medical School.
