The Tower of Babel #1 was the first intentional piece I did in which I used the Bible as a way to look at the derivation of values in western society. Coming directly out of my first visit to Germany in 1991, the images in this piece were taken from a German anatomy book, as well as photographs of my own hands. In this canvas, I specifically addressed the hubris in a refusal to understand and feel compassion for one another. The result is a tower of death.
