The winter of 2008–2009 was a time of hope and fear for our country. In trying to encapsulate both in one piece, I chose landscape as a medium for containing the tension. But I meant it also to contain the calming pearl grays of the sky in Gloucester, the rocks on the beach, and the sound of the sea even when it is out of sight. Through these aspects, I tried to bring in the solace of nature and the hope that is within light and beauty.
